In
conjunction with the National Railroad Passenger Corporation,
Amtrak, and the National Park Service the NRHS has developed
a joint, regular program to provide historical narrators aboard
Amtrak trains. The narrators provide as a public service to
Amtrak's passengers descriptions, stories, and historical details
about points along the way. Currently the program includes narrators
on the following Amtrak routes:
- Cardinal (Washington - Chicago via Virginia,
West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana)
- Adirondack (New York - Montreal)
- Vermonter (New York - St. Albans, VT)
We are looking for volunteers to support this program and help
it expand. Participating volunteers are enrolled by the Park
Service in its Volunteers-in-Parks program. Volunteers may enroll
as individuals, or through Sponsored Voluntary Service Agreements
between a National Park unit & a non-profit organization such
as the NRHS. NRHS Chapters currently involved in the program
are Western Connecticut Chapter, Champlain Valley Chapter, and
C.P. Huntington Chapter.
For additional information about the program or to volunteer,
please contact the National Office.
