Railway Express Agency

The Railway Express
Agency was the railroad equivalent of today's modern express
shipping companies, such as UPS and FEDEX. This mini-flyer/brochure
was printed in June of 1946.
Many high-priority
passenger trains carried baggage cars operated by the REA. They
carried high-priority time-sensitive parcels from city to city
and were a major source of revenue for passenger trains. Many
of today's Amtrak trains have returned to hauling express time-sensitive
freight as a way to boost revenues.
