RailCamp 2014 Wilmington, Delaware

RailCamp East will be five days in length, headquartered at the University of Delaware and is open to 24 Campers. For three days, campers will visit Amtrak’s Operations Center, Crew Training Center and their locomotive and car shops in Delaware. Campers will have “hands-on” activities and be immersed in the daily operation of a passenger railroad. There will be opportunities to feel the pressure of being a Train Dispatcher on the Northeast Corridor and experience the tension of driving an Acela Train at more than 100mph.

RailCamp 2014: Tacoma, Washington

RailCamp Northwest in July/August 2014 will headquarter at the University of Puget Sound and can accept 18 campers. Activities will be spread across the area, including a day with Amtrak at the newly renovated and restored King Street Station in Seattle and the large maintenance facility located adjacent to it. Campers will be involved in everything from Station Operations to maintenance of long-haul passenger equipment.

Another day will be spent at the Operations Center of Tacoma Municipal Belt Line, a division of Tacoma Public Utilities and a major player in west coast intermodal operations. This will be a day of working on a real working railroad doing whatever is being done that day including building intermodal trains for the trip east and servicing the power that pulls them.
