HISTORIC
RAILWAY STRUCTURES SURVEY (HRSS)
Historic
Railway Structures Survey is an NRHS initiative to catalogue
of existing railway structures of all types and create a lasting
historical record. To complete the project, we will need the
help of the public.
Roundhouse
Survey Data Sheet
Our
current survey effort focuses on roundhouses. We
are seeking input and additional help in identifying existing
roundhouses expanding the information we have on roundhouses
we already know about.
Our
goal is to compile a record of all the existing roundhouses
remaining in the United States. This listing will be possible
only through the efforts of the public. Upon completion of this
task, the listing will be made available to members, historians,
and other interested parties through the society. We also hope
to create an article for future publication in the Bulletin.
Although we have had a good initial response, there are still
major gaps in this survey.
How
can you help? If you know of a roundhouse in your area, check
the list to see if we have it. If we don't, then compile some
basic data, to be forwarded for compilation. If we do have the
roundhouse listed, then see if you can add any detail to the
information we have. The amount of data gathered will vary from
structure to structure.
We
are seeking input and additional help in identifying existing
roundhouses expanding the information we have on roundhouses
we already know about. In the table below, the left column contains
the data we already have, some incomplete. The right column
is a blank form describing the informtion we need.
Updates
or additions to this list to be forwarded to:
