The Railroad Museum of Long Island was formed in 1990 with a mission to preserve and display Long Island New York's railroad heritage. The Museum has many pieces of rolling stock, and gift shops at both locations. At Greenport facility there are two pieces of equipment, former LIRR N52A caboose #14 (fully restored), and snowplow W-83, also known as Jaws III becauase of its unique paint job on the plow blade. Inside the former depot there are also many artifacts and a running model railroad.

Transportation to and from Greenport was on the Long Island Railroad with departures from the Ronkonkoma station.
