Inbound and Outbound Convention Excursions

The NRHS is excited to announce that it has received approaval to operate an inbound and outbound excursion to and from our 2012 Convention. Passengers will arrive in Cedar Rapids in style by taking our privately chartered Amtrak special from Chicago to our convention location over today’s Union Pacific Railroad - once the Chicago & North Western. This 230 mile trip covers the route of the famous UP Streamliners, as well as those of CNW trains like the Omahan, Corn King and the Kate Shelley 400.

Inbound Trip - June 17th

Tickets are now available for coach, club-lounge, dome-lounge and premium service. All cars will be climate controlled. Concessions, beverages and light snacks will be available for purchase onboard the train. Your ticket includes all transportation and lunch. Coach service will include drinking water while the other classes include snack and drink service throughout the day. Sorry, no photo runbys are planned.

This trip departs from the north side of Chicago’s famous Union Station, today’s hub of Amtrak service for the Midwest. For those starting your convention at Chicago, have your tickets handy, or pick them up at the boarding area. The train departs at 10:30am and is expected to take approximately 6-1/2 hours to arrive at Cedar Rapids. Upon the train’s arrival, shuttle buses will be provided for the ten minute ride to the Clarion Hotel, the convention hotel.

Please note that we will be unable to delay our departure for late connections. Please time your arrival in Chicago with sufficient extra time to make the connection. We plan to make no passenger stops between Chicago and Cedar Rapids.

Outbound Trip - June 25th

This is the perfect way to end an exciting week in Iowa. Tickets are now available for coach, club-lounge, dome-lounge, and premium service. All cars will be climate controlled. Concessions, beverages and light snacks will be available for purchase onboard the train. Your ticket includes all transportation and lunch. Coach service will include drinking water while the other classes include snack and drink service throughout the day. Sorry, no photo runbys are planned.

The actual train departure location in Cedar Rapids is not yet finalized. Therefore, we have arranged for ample free parking at the Clarion Hotel. Shuttle buses will depart the Clarion Hotel beginning at 7:30am, with the last bus leaving at 8:30am. The train departs at 9:00am and is expected to take approximately 6-1/2 hours to arrive at Chicago’s Union Station. However, we cannot guarantee connections, so give yourself sufficient time in Chicago. We plan to make no passenger stops between Chicago and Cedar Rapids.
