Museum of Transportation

The
St. Louis Museum of Transportation hosted NRHS convention
goers for a day of history. The highlight of the day was the
presentation of a historic plaque commemorating the 150th
anniversary of the beginning of the Pacific Railroad, the
first railroad west of the Mississippi. A plaque ceremony
was held at 1:30 PM to unveiled to be mounted at the Barrett
Tunnels, part of the Museum property. The tunnels were the
first railroad tunnels built west of the Mississippi river.
The plaque was presented to the Museum by the NRHS.
The
Museum has over 80 locomotives, including 37 steam locomotives,
many one of a kind. It also has railroad many passenger and
freight cars, as wells as cars, trucks, and wagons.
Besides
the chance to explore the museum and its exhibits, attendees
were treated to a box lunch, a special book sale, and rides
on a miniature railroad.
