The Gala Banquet was held at the Mountainside in in Williams, AZ. The evening kicked off with a Social hour and cash bar at 6:00 and dinner beginning at 7:00 pm. The banquet hall was a western/southwest themed 2-story structure; many of the service staff were wearing cowboy hats. The menu was as follows:

  • Prime Rib, Chicken or Vegetarian
  • Vegetable
  • Dinner Salad
  • Rolls
  • Iced Tea, Coffee, or Water
  • Strawberry Shortcake

After dinner Bill Baughman of Grand Canyon Chapter offered recognition to several Chapter members who "willed" this convention to success and thanks to convention attendees. Greg Molloy, National President, then offered remarks on behalf of the entire Society and noted the tremendous effort involved in planning what has turned out to be an outstanding, well run convention. This despite the fact that Grand Canyon Chapter only has about 35 members. Mr. Molloy also recognized the National Officers and Service Directors that were present.

The featured speaker and highlight of the evening was Michael Broggie. Mr. Broggie, son of one of the original Imagineers at Disney, a lifelong railbuf, and part of a family of four generations that has worked at Disney, relayed the story of Walt Disney's Railroad, his love for trains of full size, miniature steamers, and models, and how his love for trains was the catalyst for the building of Disney Land. The presentation was a multimedia presentation that began with a hilarious 1951 Donald Duck short cartoon about a backyard miniature steam railroad. The program ended at 10:30 pm. After the show Mr. Broggie was available for autographed copies of his book Disney's Railroad Story, which were available to sell.
