Harvey
Girls - Thursday, 8:30 am - 10:30 am - A live history
presentation from real Harvey Girls who worked for the
Fred Harvey at depots along the Santa Fe. The "girls"
shared their trunkful of Harvey artifacts and lots of
stories from their experiences as pioneering women in
the west. Presented courtesey of the Winslow Harvey Girls,
in period costume. Free to convention attendees.
Grand
Canyon Railway - Friday, 8:30 am - 10:00 am - Grand
Canyon Railway and Grand Canyon Chapter Historian presented
a slide program that reviewd the company's first 100 years
of operations. The speaker has written two books on the
subject and hike the entire length of the line several
times. Free to convention attendees.
Santa
Fe Railway - Friday,10:30 am - 12:00 pm - Well known
Santa Fe historian Lloyd Stagner presented an enjoyable
visual slide history that concentrated on operations between
Belen, NM and BArstow, CA, plus additional scense from
operations on the "Peavine." Free to convention
attendees.
Meet
the NRHS Officers - Wednesday, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm - At
the Fray Marcos Hotel, Santa Fe Room, this social hour/cash
bar gave NRHS members a chance to meet and talk with NRHS
National Officers, including the President, Bulletin Editor,
and Treasurer. Free to convention attendees. Free to convention

Flagstaff
Non-Rail Bus Tour - Thursday, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm - The
tour departed from the Williams depot. The first stop
was aat the Museum of Northern Arizona for a guided tour
of the museum's exhibits of the archaeology, paleontology,
geography, and geology of the Colorado Plateau.
The
museum visit was followed by lunch (included), at Flagstaff's
historic Weatherford Hotel in downtown Flagstaff.
After
lunch, participants were treated with a visit for Riordan
Mansion State Park, the unique home of one of the pioneering
families of Flagstaff. The Riordan brothers made their
fortune in the lumber industry; their homes were built
adjacent to each other at the same location and were in
many ways identical.
Sedona
and The Red Rocks Non-Rail Bus Tour - Thursday, 5:00 pm
to 7:00 pm - The tour departed from the Williams depot.
The
1.5 hour journey to Sedona took passengers through scenic
Oak Creek Canyon, a very rugged and deep landscape that
is being considered for status as a National Park.
In
Sedona, we stopped at Tlaquepaque, a collection of galleries,
shops, and fine restaurants built in Mexican style built
in the shade of trees. This also doubled as the lunch
stop (individual settlement).
In
addition to shopping, time was also available for exploring
other shops or to take a jeep tour of the nearby red rocks.
The bus left Sedona for the return at 5:00 pm.
