The Potomac Valley
Wednesday's major excursion was a joint line operation. Our
train departed Baltimore's Penn Station (on the former PRR Main/now
Amtrak's Northeast Corridor) about 8:00 am. Power push-pull,
it was pulled South by Electric toward DC (having been pulled
Norty by Diesel-Electric locomotives). After a brief stop in
Washington, D.C. Union Station, our adventure continued West
on the former B&O Main through the scenic Potomac Valley
to Cumberland.
In Cumberland we were treated to a rare treat as our train
ran through the CSX yard and interchanged with the Western Maryland
Scenic, stopping at the former Western Maryland Depot. Passengers
then transferred to a chartered Western Maryland Scenic train
to Frostburg for a round trip, which included a photo runby.
The return trip retraced the same route, arriving
back in Baltimore late that night. Below are a few photos from
the trip.
