Night Photo Session

The 2005 night photo session was held at the Brooklyn Street Roundhouse starting at 10pm on Thursday night and ending at 2am on Friday morning. The session was well attended with nearly 90 photographers participating. The session was led by Steve Barry, editor of Railfan & Railroad with Alex Mayes and John Tully providing lighting assistance. Eight scenes were lit over the four hour session. The scenes included:

  • SP&S No. 700 posed on the roundhouse turntable.
  • SP No. 4449 posed on the roundhouse turntable.
  • SP&S No. 700 and SP No. 4449 posed side by side beside the roundhouse.
  • SP&S No. 700, SP No. 4449 and an ex-Santa Fe Alco PA No. 190 posed with their noses out of the roundhouse.
  • The ex-Santa Fe PA No. 190 with its nose out of the roundhouse.
  • Ex-Santa Fe PA No. 190 posed on the roundhouse turntable.
  • GN No. 274 and No. 644, a SDP40F diesel locomotive posed behind the shop.

The current four-stall roundhouse was built in the 1940s to accommodate the larger size of the newer more powerful steam locomotives and sits in the former Southern Pacific Brooklyn Yard in Portland, Oregon. Both the SP&S No. 700 and SP No. 4449 call the Brooklyn Street Roundhouse home.
