Jack Salt of the NRHS Grants Committee announces the 2007 Winners at the Board of Directors Meeting Friday Afternoon.

Friday at the convention is traditionally that of educational seminars, a Board of Directors Meeting and the annual Membership meeting, and the annual banquet.

Seminars - The following seminars were offered at the Finley Lecture Hall.

- First Seminar– 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. “Chattanooga Railroads in the 1940’s”. The presenter is Louis Newton

- Second Seminar –9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.”Once I built a Railroad.” The presenter is Robert Soule III

- Third Seminar –10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Representatives from the firm Fernley & Fernley will discuss the new membership and dues collection system.

After lunch was the NRHS Summer Board of Directors Meeting, which began at 1:00 p.m. in the Finley Lecture Hall. There were several significant developments at the meeting.

  • All 2005 and 2006 NRHS Bulletins (8 regular issues plus the 2004 and 2005 Year in Review Issues) will be published and mailed by the end of 2007.
  • Discussion on the 2008 Dues Structure. An increase of $11.00 was approved.

After a short recess, the NRHS Membership Meeting began at 6:30 p.m. This was also held in the Finley Lecture Hall.

At 6:00 p.m., the social hour began with a cash bar available. This was followed by the annual banquet at 7:30 p.m. 424 attendees were treated to a meal of Fish, Beef, or vegetarian, with vegetables, salad, bread, iced tea, coffee, and dessert. Following dinner, our keynote speaker Mr. C. Wick Moorman, Chairman, President, and CEO of Norfolk Southern spoke about the state of Norfolk Southern, its plans for the future, and the relationship and potential for collaboration with historical societies. Several door prizes were given away at the end of the evening.
