Chicago Union Station Rush Hour

A Burlington Northern commuter train, powered by E9R No. 9923, arrives at Chicago Union Station as Amtrak's "Broadway Limited", powered by a trio of E8s, departs for New York in May 1979. Burlington Northern's E9Rs remained in service on Chicago-area commuter authority METRA until the early 1990s, however Amtrak's E-units lasted only another year after this photo was taken.
