    'FEC's Vacationeer'
    **Hugh M. Comer

With a background of salt water bays and inlets, the Florida East Coast's Vacationeer, number 73, is stopped by the camera a mile or so north of St. Augustine, Florida in March, 1947. Not many months remained before the handsome Mountain type, complete with Worthington B. L. feedwater heater and six wheel tender trucks, will be replaced by an orange and yellow diesel of the FEC color scheme. Mountain type number 422 first breezed down the Flagler System double iron in 1923 handling the heavy varnishes of the boom era. Through boom, depression, and war these oil burners performed admirably only to be replaced in the late 40's by diesels.
